TOMMY EUROPE - PRO FOOTBALL PLAYER & HOST OF LAST 10 POUNDS

Tommy Europe host of the "The Last Ten Pounds" and "Bulging Brides" is one of my favorite personal trainers.  I watch his shows religiously.  Both shows combine computer graphic visualization (of what you want and what you don't want), goal setting, exercise and diet which offers the perfect recipe for weight loss.  Tommy was a professional football player and starred as a defensive back in the CFL in Canada winning the Grey Cup for the BC Lions in 1994. His hard hitting style is straight from the pages of professional football training.  Tommy Europe is in demand as a trainer, speaker, stunt man in movies including Scary Movie 4 and he now includes "author" on his resume with his new e-book "10 Pound Shred."

Tommy Europe has swung by to give our Global Townhall readers the drill on dropping the pounds in our interview together.  Looking at Tommy's pictures is probably incentive enough to want to drop pounds though right!

Gabrielle Reilly:  I'm always in search of finding a good explanation for that athletic toughness needed to push yourself over the finish line of whatever sport you're involved with.  Can you explain the process you go through mentally to dig deep and make it over the finish line when you can barely move?

Tommy Europe: Sometimes to complete a goal you are going to have to deal with some sort of adversity.   Everybody has their own way of dealing with the situation, but here are a few things that I have found really work. Whatever the situation is you have to "pre-plan" the scenario and actually see yourself finishing. When the going gets tough repeat positive words because now you are in a battle with yourself! I like to think of things like "almost there, once I finish I'm going to reward myself, this is what I have worked for, or I FEEL GREAT"!

Use some of those cues and see yourself going past what you would have originally thought; the only limits you have are the ones you set for yourself!

Gabrielle Reilly:  I love the computer visualization segment of your show of the "fat you" if you continued the same behavior and the "slim you" if you changed your lifestyle up.  What techniques could you suggest for viewers at home to consider creating their own visualization tools?

Tommy Europe:  If you're at home and want to gage where you're heading and where you could be, the best source will be your wardrobe. Everybody and I mean everybody has "big clothes" & "little clothes", you will have to be the one to decide which set you would like to wearJ On average we morph contestants 25-50 lbs heavier or lighter (according to their current lifestyles)


 

Gabrielle Reilly:  How does the calorie equation work?

Tommy Europe:  The math is really simple; it's a matter of burning more calories than you are taking in.

Gabrielle Reilly:   How much do you have to take in and burn to lose 10 lbs in a 4 week period?

Tommy Europe:  Contestants consume between 1500-2000 calories per day, these meals are spaced out in 5-6 meals per day. It's all about portion size and the right foods, at the right times. Try to have your carbohydrates earlier in the day when you are most likely to be active.


 

Gabrielle Reilly:  Nadeen does such a great job with the nutrition and giving a shocking visualization of the clients overall food intake.  Are you going to post the meal plans she gives on the shows for the viewers to emulate at home?

Tommy Europe:  Nadeen only plays a nutrition specialist on the show. Maria Thomas is the one who develops the meal plans, she is a registered dietician and runs her own company Urban Nutrition http://urbannutrition.ca/ . Gabrielle Reilly:  Do we have some more seasons of 10 Pound Lighter and Bulging Brides to look forward to?

Tommy Europe:  YESJ we are currently filming season 4 & 5 of The Last 10 Pounds and Season 3 of Bulging Brides.


 

Gabrielle Reilly:  What else have you been doing besides these hit series?

Tommy Europe:  It has been a really busy, but amazing time for me. Over the last year I have been doing a lot of appearances, speaking engagements, and corporate fitness challenges.
