Gabrielle Reilly: What are your future personal plans?
Premier Mike Rann: I love my job. I've been Premier for more than 7 years, and leader of the Labor party for nearly 15. Last year I was national President of my Party, and I'm now the Chair of the London-based Climate Group's International Network of states, regions and provinces. I chaired their meeting in Poland last year, and will do so in Copenhagen in December. I will lead the government and our Party to the next state elections, and if we win, look forward to continuing as Premier in a state which, in so many areas, leads rather than follows. I should say I've a few cameo bit parts in movies, including a Bollywood dancing scenes and a B&W silent film comedy, in which I play, without any obvious acting talent, a Prime Minister of the future. But no ambitions to follow the lead of my doppelganger and Climate Group ally Arnie!
Gabrielle Reilly: What motivational/philosophical quote would you like to offer our readers to improve their lives?
Premier Mike Rann: One of the best quotes I've heard was attributed to the "The Greatest" - Mohammed Ali -. He was asked what it meant to be "great". His reply was a doozy. "Being great means never looking down on those who look up to you". As for my advice . I told a teacher when I was 14 that I wanted to be a Labor member for Parliament and a journalist. I stuck to my guns. So my advice to young people is to live your dream. Set yourself a goal or a target and if you want it badly enough, and you're prepared to put in the hard yards, you'll get there.
Gabrielle Reilly: The very first thing I do when I get off the plane in Adelaide is head straight to Glenelg Beach to get a yiros. After traveling the world (surprisingly that includes Athens) I have not found a single yiros that is even half as good as those found along Glenelg Beach. Where are some of your favorite places to eat and what sort of food do you enjoy?
Premier Mike Rann: My Wife Sasha has Italian parents so I'm pretty spoiled on the food front. However I love all things Indian and my choice for my last supper would always be an Indian curry. Adelaide is very much a wine and food capital, so we have infinite choice on the restaurant front.
