Ivan Rusilko, Mr. USA, is certainly all that you hope for in a man and then some. Well, he's obviously very good looking, but he is also more admirably... smart, funny, kind, well-mannered, optimistic, inspiring and doesn't take himself too seriously. Ivan popped onto The Global Townhall to give us some tips on fitness, exercise and attitude as well as discussing his year as Mr. USA.
GABRIELLE REILLY: Congratulations on your win as Mister USA! What do you do for the year as Mr. USA?
IVAN RUSILKO: Well thank you so much! Basically I attend social and professional events (fashion weeks/Oscars/sporting events) and love ever minute of it. I traveled to Taiwan in November of last year representing the United States in the Mister International Competition. I also get to create awareness for various things I am associated with like the Jigsaw Foundation here in Melbourne which is a foundation that provides facial reconstruction to children who have been or are born with facial abnormalities. Being a future doctor myself I find this foundation particularly special to me due to the fact that being in this business I know how people's lives are affected by their appearance.
GABRIELLE REILLY: What do you want to do for a career after Mister USA?
IVAN RUSILKO: Well, I am actually a fourth year medical student in the states with only a couple months to go! I would love to integrate the two totally different lifestyles into one fantastic career but, like with everything else, will just take it as it comes! It's always nice to have something to fall back on and becoming a doctor is one HUGE cushion!
GABRIELLE REILLY: You seem very motivated, energetic and disciplined in so many different areas, yet so full of fun and joy. What do you do to keep so motivated and optimistic?
IVAN RUSILKO: I always say that as long as I am on this side of the dirt there is no reason to be depressed! Life is our greatest asset and too many people become caught up in the world around them (or worse, themselves!) I love life and even more I love living it!
GABRIELLE REILLY: Do you have a girlfriend?
IVAN RUSILKO: Hahah, currently no but am definitely on the look out for a future Miss USA! I said it before and I will say it again, I am single and looking to mingle! Please feel free to refer any inquires to me directly, ahah.
GABRIELLE REILLY: What weight/cardio training do you do in a week?
IVAN RUSILKO: I am actually writing a book on this. I have taking the "know how" from medical school and combined it with the knowledge from "trial and error" throughout my body building/modeling career and formed the easiest exercising regimen ever invented! I am looking forward to sharing it with anyone who will take the time to lend me an ear, or eye! I tend to exercise twice a day (not bad trust me, its addictive) with weights no heavier then 40 lbs! It's safe, easy, and fun!
GABRIELLE REILLY: Do you have days when the last thing you want to do is step foot in a gym?
IVAN RUSILKO: Nope, that's the beauty of my new system! I can do it wherever and the hardest part is deciding what to watch or listen to!
GABRIELLE REILLY: Do you have allocated binge days/meals?
IVAN RUSILKO: This is where being a medical student is a very big plus. Metabolism is either an amazing thing for those who understand it or a pitfall to those that do not. I follow a very "relaxed diet" every three days to keep my metabolism high and mind at ease. Those who have a very strict diet tend to fail and those that starve themselves are actually doing themselves harm due to the fact that this leads to a slowing of their metabolism which = fat gain.
